Bodum Multi plug - Plug & Play

Brief
We were briefed to design a new multi plug that follows the new standard for South Africa's electrical system - SANS 164-2. We were tested on conceptual design, form giving, load bearing structures, ease of assembly, functionality and usability, and finally aesthetics and ergonomics.
Brand
We were given a choice of 6 brands to design from - namely, Bodum, Phillips, Dyson, Fisher Price, Apple, and Stanley. Each brand had different design criteria in terms of the location that the plugs would be used (Kitchen, Bedroom/bathroom, Living space, Playroom, Work space and Garage/outdoor - respectively), followed by the problems that needed to be solved for each of those locations.
Chosen Brand & Problem Areas
I decided to follow the path of Bodum, and designing a multi plug for kitchens. I found their simple forms and textures interesting, and I felt that I could find strong problem areas within a kitchen environment.

So, I went to local coffee shops to take images of the setups to try outline possible problem areas. I found the greatest problem threats being water spillage, cable management and the aesthetics (especially for a modern style cafe).
Upon further research, I decided to steer away from a cafe or coffee shop, and considered a normal kitchen - where appliances can be moved.
Ideation and Sketching
Chosen Direction
The direction I decided to pursue was one that would be placed in the surface of the kitchen counter. The problems that this solves is the general aesthetics, the cable management and provides water resistance.
